The voices of the protests were drowned out by gunfire

The smell of gunpowder and blood

We remember

the chains digging into our wrists

the darkness casting in through the bars

With only the moonlight to guide us

we fled through the water and crossed the border

Cold water drenched our clothes

but we never let go of our cameras

We will stand up again and again

We will keep continuing to create

on behalf of those who cannot speak

for the day of rebirth that will arrive one day

“Docu Athan" is an online platform to support Burmese creators (journalists/filmmakers/artists etc). “Athan” means “voice” “opinion” in Burmese. Viewers can donate "Athan" to fund creators to create new works.

In Myanmar, many civilian lives have been stolen by military violence and journalists have been unjustly detained.

2 (1).jpg

Journalists, who were taking on the role to report the crisis in the country, and artists, who were freely expressing themselves, have been forced to flee.

3 (1).jpg

Creators in hiding continue to create work under difficult circumstances.

4 (1).jpg

By publishing their work, Docu Athan gives a voice to journalists, documentarists and artists who are under adverse circumstances.

Linn Maung is a young guy, who joined the protests peacefully to express his desire of restoring democracy like many other people soon after the military coup. Due to the horrendous crimes that junta forces committed against the peaceful protesters, he had to run into the jungle to hold the gun and to fight back. After the military jets dropped the bombs on the training camp where he was joining, he had to run again. Thus, he decided to raise funds by selling his art to provide the necessary support to his comrades.
